The is the actual bow-section of H.M.S. Vindictive. On the night of 9th/10th May 1918 the Vindictive was deliberately sunk in Ostend Harbour in an attempt to prevent the Germans from using Ostend as a naval base. After the war the wreck was raised and broken-up, with the bow-section being placed here, near to Ostend Station, as a memorial. This photo shows my father and my son by the memorial in 1987.
In 2013 the memorial was moved to a new site on Ostend's main quay, quite close to where it was originally sunk.
